Sure BC has some things to talk about, with it's pipeline and it's #Vanre, and yeah there's aggressive creep catchers and toddler's lives are in danger because of Pokemon Go. but who care about any of that when Roseanne is going through a real tough life lesson right now?
What this is supposed to be, is a regular podcast tackling subjects ranging from sex cults to royal weddings, but what it turned into was an hour of bad audio. Michael didn't double check every little thing before recording, so unbeknownst to him, the mic settings were completely wrong.
But the show must go on, just imagine that you're listening to an AM radio station a little bit off the right setting.
We changed the format this week! Since Michael has always been a fan of quiz shows and always wanted to live the dream of hosting one himself, he asked for the help of Lauren and Jake to compete in a facts based quiz about current news. Who wins? you'll have to find out but one thing's for sure, we're all winners!
Aside from SexBnBs and Bill Gates warning us we're all going to die, there wasn't a lot to talk about that wasn't already the same stuff different day. So let's just talk about Childish Gambino
Earlier in the week, and entirely different show was planned, but then Thursday came around and things needed to change, it's entirely coincidental that Tony is on the podcast this week given the subject matter, but I might be in the minority on that one.
The podcast is now officially 3 years old! What better way to celebrate than by bringing back one of the original members for a rousing game of talk-n-stuff. But we get the pleasantries out of the way quickly and get down to the serious dirt, that is also practically old news at this point.
But what can you do? HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
This week Michael is joined by Lauren Boothby who is a freelance journalist based in the Metro Vancouver area. They tackle a wide variety of topics from Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Animals farting and the shifty world of Airbnbs.
Aside from the breaking news, it was pretty much a slow news day for the podcast. April fool'd us on Easter Sunday, and luckily the fake news wasn't as bad as it is every other day. But we still talked about, Alt-Right furries, Hotel disasters and the continuing tragedy of the Facebook CEO.
Jake comes to Michael's rescue and guests on the podcast this week. They talk gamers, gun violence and the never ending gong show that is Facebook's meddling in the social aspects of all of our lives.
It's nothing but news briefs and nothing but Michael. (so that means it's short)
A tiny handful of news delivered to your ears this week. Tiny tiny handful.
On this very special episode of "The world is a farce and we all just have to get through it." Jake joins Michael for a lengthy conversation about the media circus surrounding the survivors of the recent shooting at a Florida school.
Yes, there is also a bunch of news briefs at the top of the show, but we burn through them and get to the important part, we have ourselves a good old fashioned conversation about gun problems.
Michael was on his own this week. So the show must go on in a very short manner. What does Canadaland call this? Short Cuts? WELL WE'RE SHORTER THAN THAT. It's all Olympics this week and a little bit of Soapboxing towards America.
Like I said. Michael was on his own ;D
We support the BC Wine industry this week by drinking two bottles during the recording. Because it's wine, we have civilized discourse on Catholic schools, SuperShe island and the hot trend of penis whitening. Then we take time to discuss the Gerald Stanley trial, and why justice for Colten Boushie should matter.
The number one podcast about free speech... Or is it free form speech? I dunno. McDonald's fries cures baldness or something. Ethan joins the podcast to talk about the Middle East, the 4/20 beach garbage and we talk about your boy JP again.
but no, it's a serious podcast ;)
How do you talk impartially about a guy that has become notorious for his opinion that it feels the only way to talk about him is to talk him down. Where's the civil discourse in a conversation about a guy that calls the modern man weak, and being "forced" to use transgender pronouns goes against his freedom of speech.
well we get there somehow, after we talk about flamethrowers, a female Colonel Sanders, and Barney's new sex cult?
The Vancouver Aquarium's decision to no longer display whales and dolphins, can only mean activists will leave them the hell alone now, right? At the very least, tourists now have less exciting things to look at. Maybe they should hire a lifestyle blogger to spend 5 days in an empty tank and right about how roomy it is, with all the fish you can eat.
We had three people on the podcast this week and yet we managed to get through everything a little too quickly. Edrick, Melissa and Michael get through topics of sneezing, water and Child endangerment. Then move onto the topic of Shithole countries, because shitholes are all the rage these days.
The NewsFriends podcast is back, and it's almost as if the news itself hasn't really changed. It seems like only yesterday we were talking about the President's mental stability, and stupid youtube celebrities. But the Golden Globes happened, and The Weeknd has something to say about fashion.
Welcome back, news.
So much has happened this year that it was a bit difficult to fit everything into a 25 minute podcast. But once again, Michael researched and wrote for 12 hours straight to fit in what he thought was important to talk about.
We probably didn't even scratch the surface because TOO MUCH WAS GOING ON.
Anyway, That's it for this season of the NewsFriends podcast. Thank you so much for listening this year! We will be back for Season 5 in January!
